WHO I AM. My name is Sophie Lvoff. Born in 1986, I am a New Orleans resident, photography teacher. I capture the romance of sky, landscape, and science on film. Through exploration of color I compose my own landscape and rockets, airports, family, and, light become my structure and tools. When I encounter locations that pull my interest, I develop an intense fascination and see compositions.
RUSSIA. These photographs from the summer of 2008 were taken in Russia's Moscow and Yasnaya Polyana. My family is descended from a novelist and phenomonist and often visited his estate in Yasnaya Polyana. Russia's colorul landscape makes it a very complex country. Because it's his estate, there are always many visitors and weddings are held there every day. There are majestic trees and a lake you can swim in, the house that he lived in, a stable, and a small orchard--visiting in person you feel a very stark/serene and comfortable atmosphere. He created most of his masterpieces here.
MOMENT. I photographed an image of my grandfather. Grandfather was the eldest living descendent of Tolsoy and he is the most interesting person of anybody I know. When I took the photograph my grandfather and older brother were taking a walk in the valley near the house and the light was so beautiful.
NEXT PLACE. After living in New York for a long time, I relocated six months ago to New Orleans, Louisiana. Though it suffered a lot of damage from Hurricane Katrina, its colorful/diverse culture remains and is amazingly breathing new life into the city. From here I want to focus on America's Southwest and shoot America's deserts. And since a long time ago I've always wanted to capture Egypt with my camera.
